| ISLANDIA, N.Y., December 13, 2001 – Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that the College of the Holy Cross, one of the nation’s leading liberal arts institutions, has selected Unicenter, CA’s family of award-winning eBusiness infrastructure management solutions, to monitor and strengthen its increasingly complex network. In doing so, the college is able to maintain staffing levels while improving service levels for students, faculty and staff.
“Holy Cross has been strengthening its network – including bolstering its hardware and security systems – and the decision to add Unicenter caps that effort,” said Ellen J. Keohane, associate director of IT services, College of the Holy Cross. “Unicenter will allow us to be more proactive by fixing problems as they occur, and automatically notifying personnel and restarting systems when needed – without calling in extra staff. This will save the IT department the trouble of ‘chasing down’ problems and will allow us to maintain staffing levels, while providing our users with significantly improved network reliability.”
Ease of use was another important requirement for Holy Cross, a highly selective, undergraduate liberal arts college that embraces a Catholic, Jesuit identity. “We have a lot of shareware and homegrown applications currently monitoring our status,” said Harold Knapp, technical services manager, College of the Holy Cross. “Our goal is to replace all of that with a standard set of tools that everybody can use. The intuitive interface of Unicenter is easily understood by IT staff of all technical skill levels.”
Another key to the college’s decision to choose Unicenter was its ease of integration and implementation. “Unicenter solutions were totally integrated,” said Knapp. “We were looking for the total package and wanted to know ‘How are all these things going to talk to each other?’ With CA it was clear from the start.”
In addition to selecting Unicenter, Holy Cross chose CA Services for assistance with installation and training. “One of the most important things for me is customer service,” Keohane said. “I want to work with a company that will partner with us to solve a problem. CA has demonstrated its commitment to do just that.”
“CA’s business model was a major advantage,” said Keohane. “CA was very easy to work with, and their flexible licensing offered us a tremendous range of options to address our needs.”
Holy Cross also plans to deploy Unicenter Service Desk to track network events that need attention, and to help build a knowledge base. Plans call for the college to integrate the user services support function into a call tracking system. Their objective is an integrated system for monitoring, reporting, and troubleshooting.
